From Fragile Start to Fearless Teen – Hemophilia

Jai’s journey with hemophilia highlights how expert care and in-home infusion therapy empower kids with bleeding disorders to live fully—and fearlessly

When Jai arrived in the U.S. from China at just two years old, his new family knew they had a special child in their arms. But within weeks, they realized the road ahead wouldn’t be easy. Jai was born with hemophilia A—a rare genetic bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency in factor VIII, a clotting protein the blood needs to prevent dangerous, often spontaneous bleeding.

Without proper treatment, even a small bump or bruise could lead to internal bleeding, joint damage, or a life-threatening emergency. In China, Jai had gone without consistent care. His adoptive parents stepped in with determination—not just to manage his condition, but to give him the chance to truly thrive.

Understanding Hemophilia: A Lifelong Condition

Hemophilia A doesn’t improve on its own, but with proactive care and ongoing treatment, patients can manage it safely. For Jai, that meant beginning a regular infusion routine—receiving factor VIII intravenously to prevent prolonged bleeding and protect his joints from long-term damage.

Early access to infusion therapy is critical for young patients like Jai. Prophylactic infusions—administered at home rather than in a doctor’s office—help prevent internal bleeds and support physical growth. But learning to manage this routine outside a hospital setting can feel overwhelming, especially for a child full of energy and eager to explore. That’s why PromptCare’s infusion nurses became such a vital part of his life.

Nurse-Led Care that Builds Confidence

Jai’s journey started at home, guided by a team of specialized pediatric infusion nurses. His PromptCare team provided more than medical care—they became trusted partners in his family’s new routine. With guidance, his parents learned to administer infusions with confidence. Over time, Jai took the lead himself by learning to self-infuse—a milestone that marked a new level of independence.

Behind the scenes, his dedicated support team at PromptCare worked to keep his health on track. Pharmacists prepared and dispensed his medication, ensuring each dose arrived on time and matched his treatment plan. And his patient care coordinator served as a point person, managing refills, delivering supplies, scheduling nursing visits, and navigating insurance. As a team, they made complex care feel seamless so Jai could focus on growing, learning, and living fully.

This hands-on model gives parents the skills to successfully manage hemophilia beyond the hospital. Nurse-led care doesn’t just reduce ER visits—it prevents complications and builds the foundation for lifelong self-advocacy.

As Jai grows, his care plan evolves with him—always adapting to support his treatment goals. He listens to his body, recognizes early signs of a bleed, and responds with confidence. What once felt overwhelming is now part of his routine, giving him the freedom to live life on his terms.

Active, Creative, and Unstoppable

Today, Jai competes in track and field, sprinting down the lanes with strength and leaping through the air in long jump. He’s also a creative force, spending hours sketching intricate designs and producing short videos inspired by his favorite artists. Pop icons like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Tate McRae are his daily soundtrack.

Jai doesn’t just excel in hobbies. He’s a committed student who earns the admiration of his teachers and is a compassionate member of his community, serving his family’s church and volunteering in local service projects. And he’s a loyal big brother, celebrating his siblings with pride.

He’s also looking ahead. With high school on the horizon and driver’s ed just around the corner, Jai is chasing new milestones with the same determination that’s carried him this far.

Driven, Devoted, and Defying Expectations

Jai’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right care, support, and mindset. Managing a bleeding disorder requires more than medication—it takes education, partnership, and encouragement. What once looked like a fragile start has grown into a future full of endless potential.

Thanks to his family, his care team, and his own resilience, Jai faces each day with confidence. And his story is just getting started.
